Nice place, shame about the directions.

Saturday 12th May 2007

The weather persons promised rain but, as they are only ever about 3% right, we were not surprised that the rain held off. The result of this was a rather barren Summit Park in downtown Montreal. There were some compensations but only in units of one. We saw a single Cape May Warbler, likewise Black & White, Northern Parula, Nashville and Black-throated Blue. With the park occupying us les than we thought it would we set off across town to the I’le de la Visitation. We had never been there before and found it to be a truly delightful site. It obviously makes a great local patch and we had a good afternoon hunting around for migrants. The primary focus of our visit was Orchard Oriole, a Quebec rarity and a good addition to the year list, if we had found it. As usual there were no directions and we didn’t see it but we did enjoy watching the warblers, especially a quick fire male Canada Warbler just feet away.

The oriole was seen by others that day so we went back the next day, see the next post for details, meanwhile here are a few photographs from the day, some are just record shots.

Cape May Warbler high in a tree.

Black & White Warbler scampering around Summit Park.

The light was awful but this Black-throated Blue Warbler does its best to brighten the day.

Magnolia Warbler almost in focus.

Yellow-rumped Warbler. Please change its name back to Myrtle, in fact, I think we will, so, Myrtle Warbler, very common at the moment.

A Black-throated Green Warbler showing its black throat but none of its green.

A Great Crested Flycatcher. For those who don't know they are about the same size as a Redwing and yes, the flies are that big.
